Natural Migraine Remedies
Prevent headaches over time with migraine remedies that have fewer side effects than prescription medications. The supplements below were found to reduce frequency of headaches by about 50% if used for at least 3 months.
- Coenzyme Q10 at 100mg three times a day
This is an antioxidant, vitamin-like compound that is very well tolerated. Occasionally may cause GI (gastric) symptoms, but those are minimized if the dose is split (as above) and if taken with food. CoC10 also has some blood pressure lowering effects.
- Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) at 400mg once a day.
Usually well tolerated but may cause diarrhea, polyuria (more urine) and the color of urine to be orange.
- Butterbur at 100mg twice a day.
Butterbur needs to be free of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA). It is well tolerated although occasionally may cause GI symptoms or fatigue (though no more fatigue than caused by Zyrtec).
